Chris + Shannon

Chris, Shannon & I go WAY back. Chris and I are practically brother and sister...and I mean that literally. We love each other but somehow manage to bicker like cats & dogs. When I transferred back to TTU from UT my Jr. year, I was instantly part of the "boys" club. It was Ryan (my now husband), Chris, Brady & me. We had the BEST time and I seriously considered writing a sit-com during those days. The things I saw and heard were pretty unimaginable, and I was thankful I was raised with a brother for preparation. You guys can only imagine how THRILLED I was when Chris started dating Shannon and I had a fellow lady in the group!! Shannon and I talked fashion in place of football which was a refreshing topic change from the normal meathead discussions I had become so accustomed to having! She was someone I could roll my eyes and laugh with and who definitely understood that it wasn't normal to drink an entire keg of  beer between 7 people in one day. Shannon is one of my favorite people in the world and I'm SO excited to watch her and Chris start their lives together. They are getting married this coming March, and it will be one heck of a celebration!! I can't wait! Love you guys!!

Amanda

Amanda and I go way back.... well, way back to our Texas Tech sorority days where we were Kappa Kappa Gammas together. I was ahead of Amanda in school, so when I was placed as her "big sister" in the KKG house I was thrilled!! We were both part of the "Kappa Pickers" (a cute little KKG choir group) so we got to spend time during rush goofing off with sing-a-longs and guitars. Once we were officially coined as "big & little", we started hanging out even more. The night of our big sorority formal we went to dinner where I was shocked to find out that even though she was a grade below me, she was actually older than me!! Ha- so we determined that from that point on I would be her "big-but-equal-sister". Amanda called me a few weeks back to take her graduation pictures... We did the traditional cap & gown for the scrapbooks, but also did some portfolio type shots for fun... This girl needs to be a model, she's an absolute beauty!!

Enjoy the fabulous Amanda Sue...

Sage & Duke

My brother Sage turned 29 this past May and asked me to take pictures of him with his favorite dog, Duke. It was a strange request, but I'm assuming he took my offer of a free photo session in lieu of a Rosa's gift card (which certainly would have  been the alternative!). In order to appreciate this post, you really need to know the backstory of good 'ole Duke. Sage bought Duke about 9 years ago when he moved back to Texas Tech and instantly fell in love with the adrenaline seeking canine. Duke lived in Sage's modest backyard but made a bad habit of constantly jumping the fence and running away. Therefore, Sage took this as an opportunity to send Duke off to "boarding school" at my parents' 60 acre pecan orchard, which has no fence. After running more than 10 miles away from home, on multiple occasions, Duke quickly lost his "free roaming" privileges and was sentenced to a large dog kennel (akin to a jail cell with plush bedding). He was treated like a king and got to run twice a day, every day. Sage took him on hunting trips, and even sent him to a prestigious dog training school. He came home and we were all full of hope that he had left his childish ways behind him.

Later on, as a "teenager" Duke found himself on probation and still living in his kennel. My mom went to let him out one day only to find him missing. Stunned at how this crazy Houdini could possible escape the Thames rendition of a much friendlier Alcatraz, my mom rigged a spy cam to catch the canine in his mischievous act. Sure enough, the amateur surveillance tape revealed Duke jumping onto the top of his dog house, shimmying up the chain linked fence, squeezing his way through the wired roof, and catapulting himself onto the canopy of surrounding trees for a smooth landing. After sealing off Duke's man-cave, my mom felt certain he was going no where. Now smarter, she bought a neon orange locator collar with a remote control, so that when he was out, and did run off we could beep him back home. Nevertheless, Duke ran off two more times: Once in the poring rain at 2:00 AM only to be found by one of Sage's friends from high school; the other at the Tipton Pet Hotel, where he adopted the name "Bob" and an immaculate indoor suite (literally with cable TV for his viewing pleasure).

The stories go on.... including one rattle snake bite and two encounters with very pissed off porcupines (all three of which happened on Sundays when our vet was closed). Needless to say, the dog is a more entertaining version of "Marley", and he has won the hearts of all of us who have tried to keep him alive over these past 9 years. Now he's older (and I wish I could say wiser), yet he is still into his same old tricks.

This was just two weeks ago- his most recent disaster... don't worry, we got him squared away with pain medicine and antibiotics!

Enjoy these images of Duke- we may eventually turn his story into the next best seller!!

HAD&P Featured on Style Me Pretty Texas!

I'm so thrilled to share with you guys that we've been featured on the adorable go-to wedding blog- Style Me Pretty: Texas!! You all probably remember my wedding debut from Fredericksburg with Charla & Jon Lee back in March. The amazing florist from this event, Melanie Tipton from Last Petal in Austin, Tx contacted me and suggested I submit these images to Style Me Pretty. Little did I know they would actually pick up the post the very next week!! This quaint Texas wedding was every photographer’s dream come true. All the details and romantic touches seemed to come straight from a J.Crew or Anthropologie ad campaign. The wedding was so classic, so charming, and so quaint. The union took place at the Hoffman Haus in Fredericksburg, Texas & was a complete success. Wedding coordinator Luis Carmona was exceptional and made sure each intricate detail was executed properly. He was absolutely amazing to work with & he certainly kept Amy-Rose and I laughing the entire day.

The decorations from this event were just perfection and the bride and her family worked diligently to make sure each significant detail came together swimmingly. The candle and tree stump centerpieces were actually hand cut by the bride's mom. The trees came from the bride's grandfather's field. The signs that have the cities where their families traveled from are actually wood slats from the her grandfather's barn also and were hand painted by her mom.

My fabulous second shooter Amy-Rose King, of Amy-Rose King Photography, shot along side me at this wedding and contributed some phenomenal images. The flowers were provided by Last Petal out of Austin, Texas and provided  fresh, soft and elegant touches to the vintage backdrop. The wedding was the absolute picture of romance set alongside a true Texas treasure, The Hoffman Haus.

Last but not least, an immense thank you to the bride & groom, Charla & Jon Lee. I'm so very appreciative to have been included in your beautiful wedding. You made my job so easy, but most importantly, so fulfilling!! Cheers to you, your happy marriage, and your beautiful wedding!!

You can see the entire post at Style Me Pretty: Texas. Be sure and leave us some LOVE!!

Lindsey + Colton = Engagement

Lindsey and Colton are  a fabulous match. I actually went to high school with Lindsey (many moons ago) and although we were never in the same class, we still managed to keep in touch all these years! I was so flattered when she asked me to be part of her wedding & all that it entails. I've had fun getting to spend more time with her during our Olive Garden dates and various shoots. The day of our engagement session when I met her fiance Colton, I mentioned to him that I might call him Clayton on accident. My best friend dates a "Clayton" and it just seemed to fit. After being completely immersed in my camera & working through the technical aspects of the shoot, I looked up and sure enough said "Clayton, can you move to the left". After that it was a self fulfilling prophecy and my mind block was set in stone. I referred to him as Clayton 3 more times, and after my inadequate name calling he finally played back calling me Hannah. I was ok with it and admired the quick whit. So "Clayton", I promise to get it right on your wedding day, thanks for putting up with me and my shenanigans. You guys are great and I had a blast during our shoot!!

Cori + Josh

I had an blast with Cori & Josh during their engagement session a couple weeks back. Josh has a house near Lake Allen Henry so we decided to meet in Post, Texas. We captured some cute small-town shots then ventured out to the lake. Once we were in the blazing heat and all dressed up, we found ourselves wishing we had our bathing suits, a boat, and a cooler of beer. I was so pumped when Cori mentioned the lake, because even just seeing water was a treat in this awful drought! These two are set to get married in Amarillo this December for a beautiful winter wedding. It's so funny, because Cori was good friends with some of my good friends growing up, and finally we put 2 & 2 together at the end of our shoot and discovered the connection! Everyone in Texas is somehow connected I swear, and I'm happy to now be connected to this adorable couple! Meet Cori & Josh. Life's a flash, capture accordingly.

The Nelson Family

Sarah, Jake, & baby Jakson are simply precious. They are truly a great family that I hope I can keep in touch with for years to come. They were so sweet and put up with me after having a pretty intense root canal the day of our shoot. I was wacky on pain meds and found myself building a tent out of old bamboo sticks & twine in the backyard. Luckily Sarah had a vintage quilt made by her grandmother to pull the whole idea together! The tent fell twice, but other than that it worked out wonderfully. Loopy or not, our session ended up being just as great as I had hoped!! Sarah is cousins to Mary-Kathryn Strong who you may remember from her baby's newborn session a while back! I love new friends and word of mouth, it makes my job so complete!! Hope you enjoy this beautiful family, I sure did! Meet the Nelsons...

The Walker Family

I love love love this family! They were some of my very first customers almost a YEAR ago, can you believe it's already been a year since Heather Ann Design & Photography has been in business?! Crazy how time flies when your having fun! I'm so excited to fill you guys in on all the fun stuff I've been up to lately, but it's 2:00am and I'm in a keep it "short and sweet" kind of mood, so I'll keep this brief.

The Walkers are your sweet, cute, & classic family. They have the two most adorable kids and I love that they are becoming HAD&P regulars :) When Rosanne set up this session, she mentioned she wanted some shots taken in her wedding dress because her daughter is now old enough to fit in the flower girl dress from her wedding years ago!! How cute is that? It was really fun playing dress up with Kamryn, she was so content running around in her big poofy princess dress- ahhh to be a kid again! I can't wait until my new niece is at the age of fairytales and dress up, I'm totally going to play the part! Enjoy the Walker's & have a great weekend!!

Russ & London

I'm always thrilled to meet new people, and Russ & his adorable little girl, London, were no exception!  First of all, how cute is the name London?! I just love it! It fits her sweet face & personality so well. Russ is dating one of my good friends Emily and it was her suggestion that I take their father/daughter photos. We had a great session full of fun, thanks to little Miss London. Emily surprised Russ with some awesome prints & canvases for Father's Day; such a great idea! I'm so glad I got to meet new friends, hang out with old ones, and photograph such an adorable family!! Meet London & Russ:

Caroline + Jerad: The Engagement

Caroline, Jerad, and I met in Mt. Vernon, Texas a few weeks back to take their adorable engagement pictures. These two are getting married next October and were kind enough to include me in their big day! Jerad's family had a fabulous house on the lake so we had lots of fun and fresh places to shoot! Caroline went to UT while Jerad went to A&M, so of course when we passed by a field of longhorns we all had the same crazy thought.... We drove back by the beastly creatures, contemplating our fate and if the shot would be worth it. Sure enough right before the sun dropped, we all jumped the fence and went for the longhorns... first 50 feet away: they were undetectable.....20 feet away, they were looking more like subjects.... 10 feet away, jackpot! After we got the shot, we got spooked and ran all the way back to the fence, injury free. It was so much fun and I always enjoy a good adrenaline rush! Thanks to Caroline & Jerad for a fun trip, I'm looking forward to Dallas in October!

Carly + Travis: The Wedding

Carly and Travis are one of those couples you catch yourself staring at adoringly. Maybe it's because they are so darn cute together, or perhaps how contagious their love is for one another. Looking back through these images, I can't help but smile at the way Travis looks at Carly. As the story goes, Travis fell hard for Carly when she wasn't available and was already dating someone else. Apparently this didn't phase Travis, and he waited years for his chance to sweep her off her feet. Needless to say, he got his long awaited opportunity and the rest is history. It's stories like this that make my heart melt, and it's people like Carly and Travis that make my job so addicting! Thank you both for letting me be a part of your big day. Also, a big thanks to my sweet mom, Candy Thames, for coming along to this wedding as my second shooter (and moral supporter!). If you get a chance, go check out Clayton Stringer's video from this wedding. He just recently started a new videography business and is very talented and a pleasure to work with! Carly & Travis, you two have a beautiful future full of love and happiness. I wish you ALL the best. Thanks again.

Fewin Family

So it's no secret I'm behind on blogging, but only because I've been spending my time getting to know people like the Fewin family. I've been on cloud nine lately with the amount of work I've received and am so thankful to each and every person who values my work and efforts. Sherry Fewin contacted me a while back to take pictures of her Ahhh-DORABLE grandchildren. While on the phone she filled me in on her history with my siblings, as she taught both Ginger & Sage at All Saints Episcopal many years back. Sherry is one of those teachers that you pray your children will be so lucky from which to learn. She is patient, nurturing, and above anything else, extremely loving. My mom filled me in on what a fabulous role-model and teacher she was all those years back at All Saints and how much of an impact she made on her students.  I was thrilled to get the pleasure to finally know this wonderful lady myself, and an impact she made! We met for our session and have crossed paths a few times since. It is no wonder her grandchildren are as precious as they seem with a grandmother like Sherry. She truly is a phenomenal person and I'm flattered to say my new friend. Meet the Fewin grandkids:

Traci + Bridal

Truly, this blog post needs no explanation, Traci Felton is one of the most beautiful and elegant people I know... however being the wordy writer that I am, I just can't skip over the high points of this exceptional bride. Traci and I have always been acquaintances, both growing up in Lubbock; however, in the past couple of months I've really gotten to know her better and have had a blast working with her! We've had fun scouting locations, going to dinner, & going over her pictures together. With a bride this gorgeous and with this much style, it's really hard to go wrong! I just love every place we shot. We started at my parents house (thanks mom) and then went downtown to First United Methodist, where she and Clay tied the knot last night! We ended at lake Ransom Canyon at her new in-law's house, which was phenomenal. You may remember Traci and Clay from their engagement session back in January. Best wishes to Traci & Clay for a life full of love, happiness, and really pretty babies! Enjoy.

Carey + Kellyn: Engagement Session

Carey & Kellyn are getting married this October and asked me to be a part of their big day! I'm so excited to capture some of the main the highlights on their road to the altar, and of course their wedding. Carey's family has a ranch in Ranger, Texas, so we packed up his truck and headed towards greener pastures, so to speak. Poor west Texas hasn't had any rain this season, so Ranger was a nice change of pace. We had a fun road trip and really got to know each other better. Our shoot was going just swimmingly when Kellyn decided that she would attempt to get on a horse bareback for a few shots... Being an old equestrian myself, I thought this would be awesome. As soon as she made it onto the horse's back, it all went haywire and she was suddenly airborne. She landed as gracefully as you could hope after such a spill, but decided that the horseback pictures weren't worth the risk. I didn't get any action shots, although they would have certainly been worth something! Kellyn laughed the whole thing off and was a wonderful sport. We got some pretty great images despite the hectic event. Hope you enjoy. Meet Carey & Kellyn: Life's a flash, capture accordingly.

The McDowell Family + 1

As you all know, I'm an aunt now, and obviously loving every moment! I blogged Madeley's newborn session a couple weeks back and promised you more to come.... well here it is...more sweet moments of miss Madeley's birthday! I wasn't going to blog all the intimate details, because there are some things in life that are better left private, but proud parents (and grandparents) have given me permission to share this adorable little video & some candids of the week Madeley was born. Don't worry, I've screened images appropriately! Here's a brief peek of the absolute joy that we all got the pleasure of experiencing a few weeks back. Follow this link to view the (very amateur) video. I'm still a "newby" with the video on my camera, but find these little video montages quite addicting when it comes to capturing family memories. Hope you enjoy these moments of the most precious new addition to our family!!

Click here to see Madeley's Birthday Video!

We have yet to finish decorating the nursery, however the rocker Ginger is sitting in above is our Nanny's rocker that she AND my dad were rocked in as babies. So precious.

Megan + Bridal

I'm so thrilled to share these bridal image with you guys... or maybe just my mom if she's the only one out there reading this! Megan Hale (newly Trotter) got married last weekend in Midland, Tx. I just love Midland weddings. They're always so classic, extremely fun, and a great chance to go home and visit Ryan's family. Megan and I go as far back as five years ago when she went on a family trip to Vegas with the Rowlands. It was a memorable trip to say the least and I truly fell in love with Megan's personality and sense of humor. My sister-in-law Taylor was the Maid of Honor in the wedding and has been Megan's best friend since the 7th grade. She was actually the reason Megan and Sean met! You may remember Megan and Sean from back in November when I posted their adorable engagement session. They are truly meant for each other and compliment one another perfectly. Best of luck to you Megan & Sean, I wish you all the happiness in the world! Life's a flash, capture accordingly.

Analisa + Bridal

Analisa & I met during our time at Tech and had fun running into each other at the occasional tailgates & TTU functions. She's good  friends to my good friend Shannon, who is also getting married this year! Crazy times we're all facing... I think it's safe to say, our lives have gone from late night studying & sorority parties to wedding functions & baby showers! I love all the different chapters that life has to offer though- especially my current chapter of entrepreneur. It's the days like the one I got to spend with Analisa in Amarillo, that I truly appreciate the fellowship my job has to offer. Being a photographer gave me a peek into Analisa's life, when I might not have otherwise gotten a front row seat! We had a blast during our session and started at her parents FABULOUS French-Country house. This toile wallpaper won my heart and the balcony I photographed her on is actually outside her childhood bedroom. I just love how those image show her, full circle, in the home & bedroom she grew up in. After a fabulous hour at her parent's house, we went to some fun stores downtown. The interior designer in me has decided one of my new favorites is the Mustard Seed, they were SO gracious to let us photograph in their beautiful shop... I spotted some fantastic chairs I want as "props"... who am I kidding, I want them for my HOUSE! We moved from there to the church Analisa got married in this past weekend & ended around sunset at the fabulous Pala Duro Club. This was one of my favorite sessions yet because of the adorable bride and fabulous locations! We packed quite a bit into our session, so I hope you enjoy!

Madeley Marie McDowell + Newborn

It's finally arrived! I'm an AUNT and there's NO going back. I've been awestruck by my new niece, Madeley, ever since she was born May 17th. She is the most perfect, precious, living thing in my world right now, (sorry Emma, but babies take precedence over dogs). Perhaps my special  bond with my new niece is all in my head, which seeing as how she's an infant with no way of developing any sort of attachment with anyone outside her mom and dad at this point, it probably is. BUT one of these days, when she needs some new Tori Burch shoes and those fabulous Stella & Dot earrings she'll be drooling over, her aunt Heather will get her then!! Yes, ma'am I plan on spoiling this one pretty rotten, it's just my nature! I was truly SO blessed to get to watch Madeley come into this world. Her amazing parents (my sister Ginger & her husband Brett) wanted her birth to be documented, and I was the lucky girl behind the camera! I was fortunate enough to capture some of the most incredible moments of her awaited arrival. I'm putting together a little something special for that post, so stay tuned! In the meantime, here are a few snap shots of Miss Madeley on her world debut. Hope you enjoy, I know I sure have!

Brandon + Stacy: The Wedding

I was so honored and thrilled to be a part of Brandon & Stacy's big day on May 7th, 2011 at the Historic Baker Building of Lubbock. I got to know these lovebirds back in the fall when we initially met for their engagement session. Needless to say, these two are easy going AND easy on the eyes! I just love how in love they are. I'm feeling especially mushy tonight, partly because I'm holding my brand new beautiful baby niece in my lap as I type this, and partly because it's 4:00am and I can't sleep in this stiff chair they call the "visitor's bed" here at the hospital. Enough of my baby babbling, I'll be posting MUCH more about Miss Madeley Marie McDowell later this week, but as for now this post is about the beautiful newlyweds. Stacy & Brandon! Their wedding was perfect from every angle and the reception was a hoot. They are surrounded by such fun family & friends. By the end of the reception I had picked up a few new dance moves, thanks to some of the more distinguished groomsmen! Also, a big thanks to my old friend & second shooter Brittany Jones of Brit Jones Photography. She and I had so much fun together and she really helped me to capture the details of the big day. Hope you all enjoy.
